The Sound Reinforcement
for Live Performance Program

4 Courses (#1, 2, 7, 11) 206 hours

Live Sound DJ Techniques Lab in Studio APlaying live is the tangible consequence of writing the song and making the record. It is the supreme manifestation of the musical craft: in person no retakes. The sound reinforcement engineer is ultimately accountable for the audio ingredient in the precisely orchestrated recipe for the concert experience. Quality training provides the essential groundwork for taking on this responsibility.

The student will begin with a thorough grounding in basic and intermediate sound engineering techniques shared with the recording industry. In the third level of the program, the student will be familiarized with the theory and practice of system design and assembly, the specific equipment used in public address and the unique personal demands of the concert tour. The practical portions will include the set-up and operation of a sound system for an actual live concert with an audience.

This four-course curriculum is designed to prepare the student for immediate entry-level employment in this exciting field.

The Audio
Production Techniques Program

4 Courses (#1, 2, 8, 11) 242 hours

Pro Tools Mix Session in Omega's Studio DIt is a rare studio, radio or TV station that does not consistently utilize the significant skills and techniques taught in this program.

The Audio Production student will gain proficiency in recording, editing and manipulating audio material in both the analog and digital domain consisting of music, sound effects, narration, and other sources. The fusion of all these elements is part of the procedures used to produce industrial; educational; documentary; news and jingle productions; and multimedia shows using both film and video.

The recording and studio skills presented in Courses 1 and 2 prepare the student for specific production exercises performed not only with traditional linear techniques, but also with ProTools, one of the most popular disc-based recording and editing software/hardware systems available. Each student will work on an individual computer workstation in Omega’s ProTools Lab, specially designed for teaching. Because the Omega School is a DigiDesign Certified Training Location, the successful graduate becomes a candidate for ProTools Certification.

The Essentials of Music Business
and Artist Management Program

3 Courses (#9, 10, 11) 88 hours

This program is designed to familiarize the student with the legalities, techniques and practices involved in conducting business within the music and entertainment industries as an artist manager or other music business professional.

In addition to providing essential information regarding standard business practices used in the promotion, management, booking and recording of musical performers, the program presents business techniques and legal concepts employed when working with agents, managers, publicists, broadcasters, copyrights, record companies, distributors, licensing organizations, publishers, song-writers, record retailers and recording studios. Although this is obviously not a law curriculum, the student will be taught to recognize situations requiring the services of an entertainment attorney, and will be familiarized with procedures for the efficient use of those services.

Omega’s Essentials of Music Business and Artist Management Program is instructed by professionals who compete day-to-day in the real world of the music industry. Teachers include a respected entertainment attorney, representatives from radio production, music retail and concert promotion, and other professionals. A career in this field has the potential to provide the motivated graduate with commissions, royalties and fees associated with copyrights and licensing; and production, publishing, mechanical and performance rights.
