Component Programs Taken Individully The Comprehensive Recording Industry Program consists of five principal components. Applicants who have narrower career goals can take these components separately or in combination in order to prepare for more specific vocational objectives. All component programs include Personal and Career Skills training. If component programs are taken in combination, tuition may be adjusted so that you will pay just once for curriculum which is shared by multiple programs. If you are considering taking multiple component programs, please contact the Director of Admissions for tuition information. Recording Engineering and Students in the Recording Engineering and Studio Techniques Program receive intense, comprehensive instruction in the theory and practice of professional multi-track studio recording. This well organized, five-course curriculum starts with the basic physics of sound, and continues through the theory and operation of consoles; analog and digital multi track tape machines; all types of signal processors; basic maintenance, troubleshooting; the recording of synthesizers and samplers; tapeless “desktop” recording and editing; basic music theory, studio protoco and much more. In the Career Development Course, students will learn how to market their new-found skills. In all course levels, students will receive extensive hands-on training from professionals who compete daily as studio engineers, technicians, recording musicians, and acoustic designers. This well-rounded strategy is intended to produce graduates who are confident and secure with both the principles and operation of recording studio hardware. The Electronic Music As space-age data storage technology becomes an essential component of the music recording and synthesis arena, the demand continues to spiral for engineering personnel familiar with the control functions, operation and programming techniques for synthesizers, samplers, and other MIDI-based devices. The specialized knowledge provided by The Electronic Music Synthesizers and MIDI Program is as vital for the individual songwriter or jingle producer as it is for the keyboard player in a musical group or the MIDI technician for a multi-stage live concert. Through lecture, demonstration and actual hands-on experience, the student will become proficient in the assembly and operation of MIDI based systems for live performance, interface with recording studio systems, MIDI networks and video/film interlock. The Level II student will be exposed to more technical and advanced considerations of MIDI networking and computer interface including in-depth programming of synthesizers, MIDI theory and applications, synchronization, and most importantly, utilization of the latest MIDI computer sequencing software for actual musical performance and recording. Through individual projects and practical hands-on exercises, the student will become conversant with the equipment used in the creation, storage, sampling and sequencing of electronic music.
