Live Sound Class in Omega's Studio ACourse #7: Sound
Reinforcement for Live Performance

As an intermediate level student this course provides specific training in professional sound reinforcement techniques for musical performance, PA, TV / theater sound, and festival/hotel applications. The student will learn design, assembly, operation and troubleshooting of live sound systems. The course includes hands-on experience with DJ systems, and implementation of large reinforcement systems in actual concert settings with performers. Successful graduation from the program qualifies the student for a Certificate of Completion.

Course #8: Audio Production Techniques

Digidesign Authorized Training LocationThis course is designed to prepare the intermediate student for employment in studios and other production facilities where editing, recording, manipulation and assembly of various sonic elements are daily tasks. Training includes digital and analog editing techniques, plus multi-track recording techniques used in the assembly and creation of finished productions.

Students will learn ProTools software on individual computer workstation using industry-standard courseware; ultimately performing a live recording session using ProTools. The powerful ProControl interface system will be used for the mix.

Course #9: Introduction to Music Business

In this introductory course, the student is familiarized with basic contract theory, basics of concert promotion, and the duties and skills required of artist management personnel. In addition, the student will be familiarized with publishing, trademark and copyright laws. Strategies and techniques for selecting a recording studio and determining a recording budget are also presented.

Course #10: Practical
Strategies in Music Business

The student is prepared for the more advanced and specialized facets of music business, artist management and business in general. During this curriculum, the student will be introduced to specific concepts of contract law, basic accounting practices, and will study various philosophies of concert promotion, and dealing with agencies, publishers and producers.

As a result of the availability and affordability of home recording and music synthesis equipment, legions of “self made” performers have appeared in the market who need direction dealing with the business of music. The recent proliferation of production and publishing companies, as well as attorneys specializing in entertainment law, attests to the fact that gainful employment in this field whether alone or as part of a firm is on the rise. The student who successfully finishes this program will qualify for a Certificate of Completion in The Essentials of Music Business and Artist Management Program.

Course #11: Personal and Career Skills

A significant part of the school’s education includes Personal and Career Skills. You become familiar with the many career opportunities in audio, and through self-assessment focus and prepare for your own career goals. You receive guidance for locating job opportunities, writing resumes and cover letters, and taking job interviews. You learn about the opportunities for self-employment, how to establish yourself in the freelance market, how to plan, and finance, and manage an independent business as an entrepreneur. Finally, you begin to implement your own “personal business plan” while still in school, to help ensure success upon graduation.
