Course #4: Advanced
Recording Studio Techniques Level II
This course provides you focused, small-group oriented training in the duties, skills and techniques employed by an assistant studio engineer. Graduation from this course and its prerequisites qualifies you for a Certificate of Completion in the Recording Engineering and Studio Techniques Program.
- You engineer a recording session using multi-machine interlock and synchronization between analog and digital. Principles of mixing for Surround Sound and the philosophies/software involved in digital mastering for CD will also be introduced.
- Learn basic service techniques, and the essential concepts of music theory used by professional engineers to refine their session skills. You perform hands-on exercises in the methodology of punch-in and punch-out.
- Perfect your operational knowledge of professional consoles, learning studio/control room setup documentation and practical day-to-day session techniques and procedures.
- Engineer and mix an eight hour multi-track music recording project (4 hour recording session, 4 hour mix) entirely on your own. The choice of performers will be yours, subject to school guidelines.
Course #5: Electronic Music
Synthesizers and MIDI Level I
Course #5 is designed to familiarize you with the theory and operation of music synthesizers and samplers. Through small-group instruction and hands-on group projects, you learn to program, record and mix a song using synthesizers and samplers working together through MIDI. As a Level I student you will also be introduced to computer-based MIDI sequencing hardware and software in preparation for projects featured in Level II. Successful completion of this course facilitates advancement into the Level II course, which leads to a Certificate in Electronic Music Synthesizers and MIDI.
Course #6: Electronic Music
Synthesizers and MIDI Level II
This course will familiarize you with the practical applications of MIDI sequencing hardware and software. You learn advanced programming of synthesizers and samplers; operating the hardware and software used for computer-based MIDI sequencing. State-of-the-art MIDI software will be explored, along with the digital audio conversion and editing features which are now a part of these popular systems. You will create, produce, program and perform your own individual eight-hour personal project using MIDI sequencing from beginning to end. Graduation from this course, its prerequisite, and Course #6 qualifies you for a Certificate of Completion in the Electronic Music Synthesizers and MIDI Program. |
