Course #2: Intermediate Recording Engineering and Studio Techniques

Class in Omega's Studio BThis curriculum is designed to further your knowledge and experience in professional recording engineering through extensive hands-on practice. Instruction includes practical exercises in the theory and operation of console automation systems, tape alignment, an actual session and mix with live performers, and more. An individual, graded, mixing evaluation is included as part of the course. Successful completion of the Intermediate Course facilitates advancement into upper-level courses leading to a Certificate in Recording Engineering and Studio Techniques.

  • Operate the SSL Total Recall Computer using Omega’s SSL 4048 computerized console.
  • Learn “tricks of the trade” from professional engineer/instructors in actual control room situations.
  • Each student will perform an individual lab exercise, creating special effects with signal processors.
  • Conduct a complete 24 track recording session in small groups with staff supervision.
  • Perform a two-hour individual mix (part of your final exam!).
  • You will work with small groups to maximize equipment operation time, and one-on-one with the instructor during your final practical evaluation.

Course #3: Advanced
Recording Studio Techniques   Level I

You will receive hands-on training on the Neve V/R-60 Console with Flying Faders. Electronics theory, acoustics/studio design, linear and non-linear (ProTools) editing will also be covered.

  • Learn professional editing techniques, computer-based room equalization, and practical troubleshooting techniques.
  • You perform a two-hour individual, automated mix of a 24 track master (part of your final exam!).
  • Record and mix using traditional 2” 24-track analog and ProTools the latest disk-based digital recording and editing system.
  • Understand the signal flow through and the operation of the renowned Neve 60-channel VR recording console.
  • Set-up and operate the Flying Faders automation system with event editing considered to be one of the most powerful systems in the industry today.
