Course #1: Basic
Practical Recording Engineering
This course will acquaint you with the art and science of studio recording engineering. You will be introduced to theories of acoustics and the behavior of sound; the magnetic recording process; operation of and signal flow through consoles and multitrack tape machines; microphone and signal processor types, techniques and characteristics; digital recording theory, CD manufacturing and more. These theories will be integrated into hands-on recording session and mix labs, conducted with small groups of students using live performers. Successful completion of the Basic Course facilitates advancement into upper-level courses leading to a Certificate in Recording Engineering and Studio Techniques.
- Lectures and workshops are conducted by experienced recording engineers who will share the facts and fundamentals of audio recording.
- You will participate in hands-on music recording and mixdown sessions in one of Omega’s fully-equipped 24, 32, 48, or 56 track studios.
- In addition to recording, mixing and media production sessions, you will perform individual lab exercises and an individual mix project using the legendary API 2488 console.
